Dr Jyotica Ruba has almost three decades of experience in delivering babies and caring for their mothers. Dr Jyoti is known by her patients for her gentle, calm expertise and compassionate bedside manner. She expertly manages all types of pregnancies, whether routine, multiple, or high-risk.
Expectant mothers will experience the very best of prenatal care and delivery room support from an obstetrician who considers helping women have their babies as her life’s work. The journey to motherhood is an extraordinary one, and Dr Ruba is honoured to be part of it.
Couples wishing to get pregnant are advised to make a pre-pregnancy appointment with an obstetrician. We’ll discuss general health, vaccination status and family history, plus recommend diet, lifestyle and supplement tips for optimal health before conception. We’ll also run some general fertility tests such as an AHM test to establish egg reserve. Because Dr Ruba is also a fertility specialist, if fertility treatment is required, women have the comforting experience of being looked after by the same knowledgeable doctor during treatment, pregnancy and birth.
Our first appointment together is often a magical experience for parents, as this is when you get to hear the baby’s heartbeat for the first time. We’ll also discuss your medical history and outline a care plan for your pregnancy. This is an opportunity to ask any questions and share any early wishes about the birth, such as a preference for caesarean, vaginal birth and epidurals etc. But there is plenty of time for these decisions, we have many appointments to come!
Monthly appointments will continue over the remainder of your first and second trimesters, with bedside scans performed at each visit. You’ll also have your nuchal translucency and anatomy scan as well as your morphology ultrasound during this time, which will give us a lot of information about the gender and development of your baby. Some parents will elect to get additional genetic screening done, and I will discuss this with you based on your family history or individual concerns.
Between weeks 28 and 36, I’ll be seeing you fortnightly to check on the progress of mum and bub, before frequency increases to weekly appointments between weeks 36-40. We’ll be doing regular growth and wellbeing scans, as well as finalise things like your birth plan and preferences. I encourage parents-to-be to share their questions and concerns in the lead-up to delivery so everyone feels comfortable and as ready as possible for the big day!
It doesn’t matter whether you’ve elected to have a vaginal birth or a scheduled caesarean, or whether this will be your first childbirth experience or your fifth, no-one goes into childbirth without some trepidation. Dr Ruba is a calm and supportive presence in the delivery room, with her decades of expertise lending parents a huge sense of comfort during this extraordinary but challenging experience.
Dr Ruba visits mum and baby in the hospital the day after delivery. We then organise a follow-up visit with mum at six weeks’ post-birth, where I’ll conduct an internal exam plus talk to you about a range of issues including breastfeeding, sleep, incontinence, and emotional state. The ‘fourth trimester’ is incredibly important as a time of physical healing as well as bonding between mother and child, and I am here to help.
