Episode 14: Is it Time to Get a Second Opinion?
Your fertility treatments aren’t working and your dream of a baby feels far away. Second opinions are big in the IVF industry, so we ask Dr Jyotica Ruba to run through some of the pros and cons of switching specialists, or just getting some additional advice during your fertility journey.
Second Opinions in Fertility Medicine: Stay or Go?
For many couples or individuals undergoing fertility treatment without any success, a second opinion is something to seriously consider.
This might be because you feel that you need reassurance that your current fertility specialist is doing the right thing, you might want a different approach to your treatment, or perhaps you feel that you aren’t being fully listened to by your current provider. Rapport with your fertility specialist is also really important to many patients, and sometimes you just don’t ‘click’ with the person providing care. They are all good reasons to seek a second opinion and consider switching to a new fertility specialist.
However, it is important to understand that there are also real benefits to staying with the same fertility specialist over time, particularly if a second specialist reviews your case and reassures you that your current doctor is doing everything they can.
Whatever you need, whether that’s just reassurance, a case review, or a fresh start altogether, Dr Jyotica Ruba is a trusted fertility specialist for second opinions in Canberra. Listen to the whole podcast for a more thorough explanation of the pros and cons to switching specialists during your fertility journey, as well as what information you should provide to your second opinion specialist to ensure a successful transfer of care.
I think people are just looking for the truth and the truth about IVF is that there is a lot of grey. Second opinions seem to be increasing in my practice and I think that’s because of word -of -mouth in Canberra. I think that we have plenty of time, we listen, I get all the reports that I need to, we have follow -up appointments. I’m happy for them to continue seeing the clinic that they’re seeing and the other doctor that they’re seeing whilst I work in the background. I don’t demand that patients come and see me and after an opinion, stay with me. I think that’s unreasonable.
We look forward to supporting you.
